Proposed American Dakota Refinery

FDL has been working together with the City and Eagles Ledge Energy on a project to build a clean fuels oil refinery near Devils Lake.  This would be located in north of the Devils Lake’s New Industrial Park.  Although this project is in the early stages of development, this is exciting for the Lake Region!

PROJECT BASIC FACTS:

  • 20,000 bpsd
  • 100 Jobs
  • Land has been secured; approximately 300 acres
  • Main product line: diesel
  • Bakken Crude

PROJECT STATUS:

  • Permit submission to the North Dakota Department of Health
  • Engineering Phase to starting in July 2015
  • Construction Phase to start in the Spring of 2016
  • 24 months
  • Operational in 2018

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR DEVILS LAKE:

  • Property tax
  • Community Enhancement Payments
  • New families
  • Increased business development
  • Housing development

NORTH DAKOTA’S ENERGY ENVIRONMENT:

  • 2nd largest oil producer in the US generating approximately 1 million barrels per stream day (BPSD)
  • The state currently has only two refineries with a refining capacity of approximately 100,000 BPSD when fully operational
  • The State’s pipeline infrastructure is insufficient to transport excess oil to other refineries out of state
  • Approximately 70% of oil production is currently exported via rail
